GENERAL FUNCTION:

Performs a wide range of duties relating to the origination of residential mortgage loans for a sales team within the Direct channel. Meet standards and objectives defined by management for team mortgage loan sales and cross-selling objectives. Responsible for the overall production of the team and the day-to-day management of each Direct Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO). Partner with Fulfillment Operations to drive closed volume. The targeted team production is $15 - $20 million per month.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues, and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervise sales FTE to team goals that feed both departmental and organizational goals. Utilize team incentives and contests to motivate a group of sales professionals to meet these goals.

  • Monitor team quality accuracy and efficiency through coaching and mentoring efforts. Focus on production and pull-through the utilization of quality control. Review loan files to ensure adherence to internal and external regulatory requirements.

  • Monitor attendance, performance and administer performance management process. Perform regular monitoring and job coaching to staff to ensure maximum performance from sales team. Perform quality monitoring and coaching via listening to calls to offer feedback to the Loan Officer.

  • Develop a sales culture and sales focused environment within team.

  • Maintain knowledge of Fifth Third Mortgage Company's policies and procedures.

  • Maintain knowledge of available loan products, processing procedures, underwriting and general departmental guidelines.

  • Understand to and adhere to all regulatory compliance rules and regulations.

  • Manage pipeline for all originated loans through closing and complete required management reports.

  • Attend and participate in all Mortgage training and compliance courses in timeframe set by management. Ensure the team has completed all applicable training and compliance courses.

  • Handle escalated customer issues.

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage personal and team production via local and Bancorp reporting and KPIs. Directly supervise Direct Mortgage Loan Officers (Total staff size of 10 - 15). Hold business plan reviews with sales team.

Ensure team activities are aligned with productivity goals. Assist departmental management in identifying possible improvements in systems and procedures. Ensure that MLOs provide a high level of customer service to external customers. Participate in ongoing efforts to improve customer service for internal and external customers. Monitor state and federal compliance issues, as well as policies and procedures set by the bank. Monitor quality levels of loan originators to insure adherence to standards. Serve as an intermediary for loan issues with processing manager and underwriting manager. Perform exception time reporting, performance reviews, coaching, performance management, commission administration and identifying training issues. Recruit, hire, and train new loan officers.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent required.

  • College degree in Business or related field preferred.

  • Knowledge of residential mortgage processing, underwriting and closing procedures.

  • In-depth knowledge of conventional, government, and portfolio guidelines.

  • Knowledge of federal lending regulations governing real estate lending.

  • Previous sales experience, mortgage origination experience preferred.

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

  • Highly organized with good time management skills.

  • PC proficient (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Mortgage origination systems and automated decision tools required.

  • Excellent verbal, written, presentation, people, and diplomacy skills.

  • Ability to enforce policies, procedures, and guidelines in a way that maximizes productivity but protects the level of risk desired.

  • Demonstrated teamwork, sales coaching, and customer service skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • This position requires S.A.F.E. Act registration at the time of employment through the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System (NMLS). The NMLS web site (mortgage.nationwidelicensingsystem.org) provides the MU4R questions and registration required for employment in this position.
