GENERAL FUNCTION:

Role would be to support the Enterprise Data Office (EDO) in one of two key functions: data management or engineering. The co-op would support whichever area has identified a need for the specific term. There also would be expectations of a team/group assignment and/or a research opportunity in addition to working with the team.

Data Management

Work with an agile squad to assist in the continual knowledge and application of data management practices like data quality, data lineage, data cataloging, etc. You would help execute the data management strategy as defined by the organization and interact with both the data management team, engineers, and lines of business. Querying data (using SQL), learning and application of our data management tools would be a large portion of this assignment.

Engineering

Work with an agile squad to assist in delivering value to our customers by applying technical skills and expertise to business and/or technical projects of a low to moderate level of complexity. As a member of an agile team you will be actively involved implementing new features and enabling capabilities using modern software engineering tools. Common skills could include SQL, Python, and cloud-based technologies.

Responsible and accountable for risk by openly exchanging ideas and opinions, elevating concerns, and personally following policies and procedures as defined. Accountable for always doing the right thing for customers and colleagues and ensures that actions and behaviors drive a positive customer experience. While operating within the Bank’s risk appetite, achieves results by consistently identifying, assessing, managing, monitoring, and reporting risks of all types.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Active participation in all agile team ceremonies

  • Plays a key role as an individual contributor on projects or agile teams.

  • Completes work assignments in conjunction with more senior staff members.

  • Participates in other learning sessions within the EDO; actively closes knowledge gaps with the guidance of more senior staff

  • Works to increase knowledge of the industry and the applications processed by Fifth Third Bank through all available channels.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 4-year degree seeker in Information Technology or related degree

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • Prefer candidates that have relevant internship and/ or co-op program experience

  • Prefer candidates with experience with software development and/or programming

  • Familiar with SQL

  • Good oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to build relationships

  • Self-starter and proactive-problem solver

  • Curious and inquisitive and a continual learner

  • Open to change

  • Can balance group and individual work

  • Openly shares thoughts in constructive ways

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based immigration sponsorship now or in the future
